| 04/09/2007 - Bike Lane Removal on Colima Road E-mail from LACBC.
Fellow Bicyclists,
I'm forwarding information on a project that would REMOVE around 3 miles of bike lanes on Colima Road in Hacienda Heights. A cyclist was killed less than a half-mile south of this project in January and this will only make the situation worse. Nonetheless, the LA County Department of Public Works has decided that there is no need to prepare an Environmental Impact Report for this project. Attached is the negative declaration stating that this project will have no significant environmental impacts [PDF 60k]. THEY CLAIM THAT NO ONE RIDES ON THIS ROAD!?! They should explain this to the family of William Walker who rode this route regularly and was killed on it in January by a distracted driver on a cell phone.
If you have concerns about the removal of these bike lanes, please call the offices of Don Knabe and Gloria Molina and let them know that you OPPOSE THE REMOVAL OF BIKE LANES ON COLIMA ROAD and let them know that they should be making this route SAFER FOR BICYCLISTS, NOT LESS SAFE. You can also demand a full Environmental Impact Study to ensure that this project addresses the concerns of the community.
