Remembering Roger Millikan

12/16/04 - Friend, competitor, and local cycling legend Roger Millikan lost his fight with Pancreatic cancer on December 14, 2004. We'll miss him a lot and always.

A memorial ride is scheduled for 8 AM on Saturday, December 18. Please see this Canyon Velo website page for more information.

DEC Meeting Cancelled, JAN Meeting Moved

12/16/04 - Another Meeting Update: The Decenber club meeting is still cancelled. The next club meeting has been moved to Monday, January 03. This meeting is on Monday instead of the usual Tuesday because that's the night of the National Championship college football game and the meeting location will be unavailable then. Confused? Sorry. See below for regular meeting info.

Local Bike Path & Road Closure Info

12/09/04 - Two local construction projects that are likely to impact your ride:

The PCH/Bolsa Chica Lowland Restoration Project will close PCH and create a detour starting around NOV 2004 and lasting for 10-12 months. Detour information is here, general project information is here.

Orange County Water District's Groundwater Replenishment System program will close a portion of the Santa Ana River Trail, creating a detour through neighborhood streets from Garden Grove Boulevard to Edna Park. This project begain mid-SEP 04 and is scheduled to last through Spring 2005. Detour information is here, general project information is here.

New Year's Day Ride Is Coming!

12/09/04 - Be a part of SoCal's biggest fun ride. The New Year's Day ride isn't a race, it isn't organized, but somehow each year it's able to resemble both. Find out more about the ride here - now with detailed route info!

Velo Allegro San Diego Ride - Saturday & Sunday, NOV 20-21

11/06/04 - Velo Allegro's San Diego Winter Training Ride and Get together is Saturday, November 20 – Sunday, November 21. The ride is about 100 miles each direction and the pace is tempo all the way. The ride will be fully supported: chase vehicle (with gear), lunch on the way down and back, and dinner Saturday night in Old Town, not including your libations.

Pricing for the event is as follows: $10.00 for members, $25.00 for non-members, not including lodging. A number of hotel rooms will be blocked in Old Town for reservations. For more info and to reserve a spot by Wednesday, November 17,call Robbie McGinnis at 562.527.5836.

10/26/04 - We incorrectly posted the next club meeting as occuring in November. There will be no club meeting in November due to the club end-of-year party. The next meeting is Tuesday, DEC 07. See below for more info.

Club Meeting Schedule Update

09/10/04 - In order to accommodate Monday Night Football*, Velo Allegro club meetings will now be held the first TUESDAY of each month beginning SEP 07, 2004.

The meeting location stays the same: Murphy’s Pub, 4918 E 2nd St., Belmont Shore, CA 90803, (above The Belmont Gym).

Farewell Kim & Daryl Rouse!

09/02/04 - Long time friends, club members, and sponsors Kim & Daryl Rouse, and family, are packing it up and moving to Australia! Daryl is originally from Australia and we hear he and the family are "excited about this new chapter" in their lives.

Al Crawford is pleased to share a photos tribute of Daryl in action. He always made us feel like we were riding against him in the Tour.

We'll miss you!

Velo Allegro's Al Crawford Reports In From the Tour de France

07/22/04 - Al Crawford has it pretty good right now. He's out in France watching the Tour. He wouldn't take me with him but he did send some really good photos back so I could feel like I'm there.

Al writes, "The first four [photos] are from stage 12, the first day in the Pyrenees. They were taken about 4 km from the top of the climb just before the point where Lance attacked. The last one is of the "Posties on the front" at the Col de Aspet, which was the first of the major climbs on their second day in the Pyrenees. Note the sign showing the 17 % grade. Cheers."

05/12/04 - A survey designed to investigate various reasons why cyclists train and participate in cycling events needs your help. It is being conducted by Robert LaChausse in the Department of Health Science and Human Ecology at California State University, San Bernardino (CSUSB). Help by completing an online survey. The survey and more information are linked here through July 1, 2004.

El Dorado Tuesday Twilight Training Series Changes Time in April 2004

5th Annual Pomona Valley Stage Race Schedule Released
