Ride Name: Heritage Park

IMPORTANT: This is not a Velo Allegro Club ride. For your personal training information only.

Start Time & Location

  • Ride starts at about 8:30 AM, Saturday mornings
    • Runs November to February
  • Main group rolls at 8:30 from the corner of E. Los Angeles Ave. and Kuehner Dr. in Simi Valley, CA
  • Those driving out often meet at the Del Taco or Starbucks at the intersection of Topanga Canyon Blvd. and Lassen St. in Chatsworth.
    • Yahoo Map of Topanga/Lassen
    • More info if you drive from Long Beach:
      • Take the 5 fwy. north to the 118 fwy. west and exit Topanga Canyon Blvd.
      • Park at the Del Taco at Topanga and Lassen St. (southeast corner).
      • It takes about 20 minutes to ride to the main rollout point from the Del Taco and over the Santa Susana Pass. It's best to roll from Del Taco by 8 AM. To get there by 8, try to leave by 6:45-6:55 AM since it's usually a 45-50 minute drive.

Overview

  • Training ride attended by 50-150 including many of the elite riders of SoCal and often pro riders getting their winter workouts.
  • Rolling hills and climbing with a re-group about half-way.
  • Ride starts out as a "short" version of 40 miles in November and segments are added until January, when the "long" group gets in about 70 miles.
  • Distance: 40-70, depending on the year and depending on if you go short, medium, or long at the split (approx. 8 miles from the rollout point).
  • The longer/faster the group, the more they throw in extra climbs.
  • Time: about 3.5 to 4 hours for the long route

Other

  • More info at http://socalcycling.com/Group%20Rides/frGroupRides.htm
  • The reason most people park at Topanga and Lassen and ride to the main start point is because it's easier to ride Old Santa Susanna Pass in the morning, with fresh legs, than it is to roll over it at the end of the ride. Also, the ride pretty much dissipates just before Topange and Lassen, so you're at your car right when the ride essentially "finishes".
